"I wish I could go out with my family, but I can't sit comfortably through an entire movie."
"I'm sorry, I can't - I'm too tired."
"I just want to go to sleep!"
Restless Legs Syndrome can make it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep, so people with the condition may be unusually tired or have trouble concentrating. Chronic lack of sleep can affect their ability to work productively, feel energetic, take part in social activities, and do the things they want to do.
Restless Legs Syndrome may also compel sufferers to avoid common situations that most of us
take for granted. For example, Restless Legs Syndrome patients say they:
- Have difficulty taking long car rides
- Try to avoid long airplane trips
- Become uneasy at the thought of sitting still during a movie
- Find it uncomfortable to sit through a long meeting
