Seeing a Doctor

Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) affects your legs and may affect your life. RLS occurs as two different types, primary or secondary, and can occur in several forms including mild to severe. As a neurological condition, RLS should be discussed with your doctor to determine if treatment (medical and other options) should be considered.

Only your doctor can diagnose RLS, so if you are experiencing symptoms of RLS see your doctor to find out for sure. When you see your doctor:

  • Discuss the symptoms you’re having.
  • Print out your completed symptoms checklist and review it with your doctor.
  • Review your medical history and if there’s any known history of RLS in your family. It’s important for your doctor to know as much as possible to make an accurate diagnosis.
  • Tell your doctor about any medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, you’re currently taking, including herbal and vitamin supplements.
